WESTPAC AIMS FOR SAATCHI DGS
Saatchi & Saatchi DGS has snared Westpac New Zealand’s direct and digital marketing business from AimProximity, as the bank looks to streamline its communication to customers.
Westpac’s General Manager of Marketing and Brand Experience, Ian Sutcliffe, says the bank has undertaken a review of services provided to the bank in order to simplify the number of agency relationships it maintains.
“Our goal is to achieve improved efficiencies and coordination as we continue to refine communication with our customers,” says Sutcliffe.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Saatchis and believe there will be benefits to consolidating our direct and digital marketing with them.”
Sutcliffe says AimProximity had been a valued partner with Westpac for the past 18 months and has contributed to the success of many initiatives that the bank has introduced over that time.

And so it begins….
Poor old westpac have been suckered in big time – lets see how long this deal lasts
Something smells a bit Mcfishy about this
That’s a big early win for DGS. Hope they can produce the goods.
Refine commmunication with customers? Like tear off vouchers saying two cheeseburgers for the price?
looks like the bank has given up on doing any direct or digital then – bit of a 1995 strategy in 2008
Well done guys. A brilliant score so early on. Nice one.
You have got to be joking 5.10 or you are from Saatchi. That was no score. It was simply a political move.
which bank will Aim go after next? And then lose?
That was all very quick. The cynics amongst us might wonder if DGS had been set up for this very purpose…which also begs the question how long has the client been unhappy with Aim?
Burgers / banking same thing isn’t it? They both start with “B”.
Do loads of TV and get them into the branch to have a feed – I mean take out a home loan.
I love the photoshopping in that PR pic. YESSS!
Aim does looks lame through all this. Lose the bank they’ve had forever, then lose the bank they’ve had for only 18 months. What’s going on in that place?
Advertising so bad that even my husband could do it.
That’s a shame for Aim. But what a great pickup for Saatchis. Gardner, you legend.
I think that Aim would be pretty happy about what happens to the quality of marketing in their ex bank clients, once they are no longer involved.
7:36 – is that you, Tony?
6.44 – you need more sleep – you will probably find that the folks at aim are doing very well indeed now that they have won tvnz…..
PUH-LEASE.
If you’re going to use all the politics available to you to shift an account your way then fine.
But to give yourself pats on the back for ‘winning, scoring’ etc, you are joking.
That is just DESPERATE for a bit of glory when there’s none to be had here. Have some dignity DGS. You’ll get your chance to crow about winning business when you actually win something.
As NBR states in their article the move was without a pitch and before Matt Shirtcliffe even arrived at the agency. Saatchi lost to Aim on Yellow Pages and TVNZ in recent pitches. I think in a pitch shootout they may have struggled to win the business. Also from a customer view Westpac doesn’t seem to embrace open and honest communication with their customers. Maybe Aim challenged them to much on how to tackle the new world of communication. It also smells like a cost saving move by Westpac to me. Oh well who cares, I just want a better online banking experience.
Aim challenged them too much on how to tackle the new world of communication?
Now you’re being a plonker 12.06. That’s just embarrassing.
12.39 you might just find that you are being the plonker here
Jeez, come on guys. Most of the comments in here are obviously from the two agencies in question, and has just become an Aim Vs Saatchi, ‘Who’s got the biggest cock’ competition.
Let’s face it, Aim have obviously dropped the ball big time, and no matter how they try to minimise it, this will have hurt.
As for Saatchi DGS, well, they’ve won it, and yes, it is a real win. Perhaps the client just couldn’t be bothered wasting its time with going to pitch, not wanting to endure a bunch of agencies explaining why they are unique and have the best offering blah, blah, blah.
A lot of agencies bleat about integration, so it is logical to assume that if Westpac ain’t happy with their digital / direct work, they’d decide to try out an integrated Saatchi offering before casting their net wider.
So, hats off to the guys at Saatchi DGS, but they’ve got a big task in front of them, and I’d say about 12 months to prove that their offering as part of the Saatchi group, is going to cut the mustard for Westpac – and if it doesn’t, it may put the Westpac advertising side of the business at risk as well.
There is an ‘O’ missing from their logo.
You’re wrong 2.34. I’m not from Saatchi or Aim, and I’ll bet you plenty of people on this thread aren’t. The fact is, most of us in this business walk around with our eyes open and it’s pretty obvious to everyone what’s happened here. The thing I take exception to in these kind of ‘realignments’ is an agency boasting about ‘a win’. It ain’t a win. It’s a political realignment. Adn that’s what it should be called. It’s desperate and insecure to call it anything else.
You by the way 2.34, are almost certainly from Saatchi, pretending that you’re not. That’s pretty desperate too.
Love it 3.07. You are a real ‘wag’!!! Come to think of it, maybe this whole thing is about the ‘tail wagging the dog.’ BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
Reading this thread, its become very clear that a fair chunk of the miserable whiners on this blog work below the line. Funny that.
12.06, I know who you are and who you work for – AND I KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR BATHROOM CUPBOARD.
4.32 Funny that you’re on here then. Whiner
What were you doing looking through my XXXL condoms? Are you gay 4.46?
DOGS. Funny. They’re sure to be a howling success.
Talk about a bunch of school kids in the playground. What a WANK!
The only wanking going on is in the press release and the sad boasts of ‘a win’. It’s a ‘win when you haven’t won’ kind of win.
well written 3.26. Saatchis haven’t won too many pitches of late so no wonder they did a con job on the client. Can’t blame them, and they are good at that. Blame looks to sit with the Bank on this one.
So McWestpac is getting fries free with its Cheesyads, whoops, I mean cheeseburger.
Forget Aim, forget Saatchis. Let’s look at Westpac. Has anyone seen a Westpac ad or a DM piece (yeah right) from Westpac that isn’t absolute shit? They are terrible. No charm, no humour, no relevance. Both these agencys are supposed to be good at what they do yet the Westpac work is pure shit. I’d suggest it isn’t the fault of the agencies.
And well done Whybins with ASB. You are so far ahead it’s not funny.
12.10pm gets my vote. The Westpac work is definitely shit. A boring formula that hasn’t changed or evolved since it started (feels like 100 years ago now.) It looks cheap and nasty and has no empathy for consumers at all. Have a look at the client, not the agencies.
Blah blah blah. So bored with this waffle. Anyone fancy kicking a ball around?
Maybe a case of the client not happy in an agency where he’s not absolutely the biggest fish? He used to run Maccas afetr all.
Maybe a case of a client who’s never happy unless he’s finding fault.
Making the most of life is the lamest strapline this side of 1988.
And it was picked from hundreds of options selotaped to the GMs wall. Shows maybe nobody has any brains or guts.
Saatchis is the new SO&M
41 commments? C’mon everyone – let’s go for a round 50. Then maybe 100.
ok 10.06, doing my bit for the comments tally.
Rock on Saatchis, great work, fab stuff. Love ya work, love ya workies even more.
