Curious’ Tara Riddell produces Harold Pinter’s play ‘The Lover’ – premieres tomorrow night

Curious producer Tara Riddell has produced a visionary adaptation of ‘The Lover’, by playwright Harold Pinter, which runs at The Basement in Auckland from tomorrow 3rd February until 13 February, 2010.

Reviewers are already praising the production for pushing the boundaries of contemporary theatre and drawing new audiences to the medium: “The Lover reinvents theatre as we know it and moves the scripted word above and beyond what we expect, and into the realm of sex, fashion and art.”

Riddell has compiled an inspiring team of actors, fashion designers and set designers to bring her vision to life, creating a one-act play that is strikingly designed, cleverly directed and sexually charged.

“I love theatre but I find it difficult to find productions thatresonate with me. Hopefully this play will allow audiences torediscover the intensity that theatre can offer,” says Riddell.

Starring Craig Hall and Michelle Langstone, ‘The Lover’ tells the storyof a husband and wife who secretly explore the worlds of sexualfetishes and fantasy. Set in London in the 1960s, it dissects thenature of desire and its clash with societal expectations.

Riddell’s production of ‘The Lover’ is directed by Caroline Bell-Booth (TVNZ, Shortland Street).
