Colenso BBDO/AIM Proximity celebrate today as ‘Yellow Treehouse’ scores Yellow Pencil at D&AD

Colenso BBDO/AIM Proximity New Zealand scored New Zealand’s only Yellow Pencil – won for Yellow Pages ‘Treehouse’ in the Branding category – at the D&AD Awards in London tonight.
The win caps an impressive run for the campaign, which has won a swag of awards worldwide over the last 12 months.
“The agency is very proud of the international recognition this campaign has received and it doesn’t get any harder than D&AD,” says Colenso BBDO Managing Director Nick Garrett.
Nick Worthington, Executive Creative Director for Colenso BBDO and AIM Proximity, says Yellow Treehouse was brave work for a big brand. “I spent the first half of my career in London, I know how hard these guys are to win, so it’s a big deal for Yellow and us, we’re honoured.”
Colenso BBDO Creative Director Steve Cochran comments from London: “As a student I’d flick through D&AD annuals studying great print and television ads. Never would have dreamed that twenty years on I’d be here collecting a pencil for a restaurant in a tree. It’s pretty crazy.”
“Over its 40 year history Colenso has won a lot of awards, so to be here to receive its first ever D&AD pencil is a real honour and one hell of a treat. This was one of the most collaborative projects I’ve ever worked on, and I look forward to getting back to share a pint with all those that had a hand in winning it,” said Cochran.
New Zealand’s only three nominations were from within the Clemenger Group. In addition to Yellow Treehouse by Colenso BBDO and AIM Proximity, nominations included Colenso BBDO’s NZ Book Council ‘Going West’ in the Animation category and one for Clemenger BBDO Wellington for Road Safety ‘It’s your call’ in the Radio category.
It was a big night for Australia, which walked off with a record two Black Pencils and seven Yellow Pencils – placing the country third in the world just behind top nations USA (two Black Pencils, nine Yellow Pencils) and UK (10 Yellow Pencils). Only 42 Yellow Pencils and five Black Pencils were awarded in total.

I wish they’d cut the bloody tree down. This should win an award for Most Entered Campaign in the World.
It’s like a living tree itself…it just goes on and on and on in award shows een though it was done two years ago.
Yeasty!
Woohoo!!!
And yet it can’t win major NZ awards, what does that say about the credibility of local judging…
Lets move on pls. Sick of this tree house idea. Who cares? it’s just advertising no one gives a crap.
To be fair it has won major NZ awards too. But yeah, it’s dragging on a bit now.
Yawn.
Cmon that’s a yellow pencil. Def worth a wahoo or two.
Ha ha bitter little sad fucks. Brilliant and well-deserved run by greatest piece of work out of NZ in years. Yellow Pencil. Magnificent.
