Curious to present two indie films at the NZ International Film Festival next week
Curious is premiering two independent films at the NZ International Film Festival this year: Sundance-winning film WINTER’S BONE, and MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER.
WINTER’S BONE won Best Picture (Grand Jury Prize) and Best Screenplay at Sundance this year for its suspenseful portrayal of one daughter’s search to find her father and save her home in the mountains of Midwest America. The story is “raw but utterly enveloping… the atmosphere of suspicion, foreboding and everyday misery would be too much to bear if not for the rich emotional anchor supplied by actress Jennifer Lawrence” –Variety.
This month, Curious also acquired the rights to THE MYTH OF THEAMERICAN SLEEPOVER. Likened to “Dazed and Confused without the headcount, and American Grafitti with Indie pop in place of Chuck Berry”,it was one of the few American films on the official programme atCannes this year. It’s about the exploits of four teenagers seekingsex, liquor, dope, romance and admiration, and is David RobertMitchell’s debut film.

WINTER’SBONE screens on Tuesday 20 July at 8:45pm at Civic Theatre, and onWednesday 21 July at 4:00pm at SKYCITY. MYTH screens on 23 July at3:45pm and 8:45pm at the Rialto Newmarket
