Adschool looking for two wildcard applicants
A message from Media Design School head, Kate Humphries:
Ta da! We begin again. With last year’s lot on placements, in jobs, on the Young guns short list and blessing billboards, it’s time to for our 40-week do-or-die year to begin once more. So send us your fairest, your foulest, and your what-else-are-we- to-do-with-thems.
7th Feb is the kick off date and this year we’ve decided to mix things up a bit by saving a couple of places for some wildcards. Officially all applicants have to complete a task sheet. But every year we also just go with our gut and accept a few wild card applicants. That’s because some of greatest graduate successes have come from unexpected places, (courier drivers, nannies, welders, doctors and landscape gardeners, to name but a few) and have also been what-the-heck last minute hunches on our part.
The big hunch last year for instance, was the-silliest-name-ever-applicant, which went to Charles Twaddle just for the sheer merriment of allowing his tutor to splutter aloud his name over and over again for 40 weeks..
Now, that ‘hunch’ turned out quite well, so this year, we’ve decided to celebrate ‘the diversity of a creative’s mind’ by officially calling for our wild card applicants; the wilder, the weirder, the sillier, the most seemingly incongruent the better.
All they need to do is just contact me directly at kate.humphries@mediadesign.school.nz and, once I’ve reassured myself that they have no criminal convictions (well serious ones, that is) they can come in for a chat.

Love your work K-dog.
Second that. Whirl ’em in to shape Kate.
Stop adding more “creatives” to the unemployment list year after year.
Stop adding student loans to WINZ.
Stop flooding the industry with more creatives especially when the industry is hiring even more from abroad.
Stop the ad schools for a few years.
Stop creating hope for 70% of the students where there is none.
Stop making a mess.
Seriously. Just stop.
(No offence to you Kate… you’re awesome; the NZ economy on the other hand, isn’t)
