Saatchi & Saatchi launches ‘legendary’ Tui spot
Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand has launched a one minute spot for Tui Breweries called ‘Legendary day at the Mangatainoka RFC’.
This latest expression of the ‘Brewing Legends’ idea captures the legend of the Hurricanes playing a pre-season Super 15 match on the 29th January, in a farmer’s paddock across the road from the Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka. The paddock transforms into a stadium to accommodate 10,000 attending rugby fans.

Hmmmmm.
might be missing someting, but what is the message?
That ad was not very good.
So contrived. The Tui brand has lost it’s heart.
Errrrrr….what now?
I am just constantly confused by anything Tui does at the moment.
ummmmmmm…..
Such a nice idea, shame it’s such a crap ad.
Oh dear…
Badly shot, confused rubbish. The kind of work that loses accounts.
Tedius nonsense. Can someone please call time on this travesty.
Oh dear. What is this even about? Just odd.
What. On Earth.
I bet the script read really good as well. EPIC FAIL
thought is was quite nice for a populous brand
What an iconic Kiwi event and brand.
What a great idea.
What a complete misfire.
What a missed opportunity.
8.17 EPIC GRAMMAR FAIL. Scripts don’t read anything, they are inanimate objects.
And if they did they’d read ‘well’, not ‘good’. If you’re going to get on your high horse, at least learn to write proper.
Looks rushed and cheap. You get what you pay for.
Ah, for all those who clearly have trouble with a direct narrative – the ad is about three guys who like drinking beer who go to a rugby game and enjoy themselves.
Geez, get your heads out of your pompous a**es…..
Oh and BTW (like that? means ‘by the way’) using phrases like ‘EPIC FAIL’ shows you up. You are either a) a wetnose youth who spends way too much time half-inching ideas from YouTube whose opinion is 5 years away from mattering, or b) someone old enough to know much better. Don’t ever use that phrase again. Seriously. WTF. The ad will sell beer anyway.
One that Dylan (that’s dye-lyn remember) left floating in the bowel. Should have flushed it.
Dye-lyn… I forgot. Thanks for reminding me.
Rumour has it that the current turmoil in the Middle East and the Ivory Coast has slowed the search for the new Saatchi ECD.
Simple idea really, just not shot well at all. I would love to know what the client did pay for this and how many cameras they had on the day. A live event is a prick to shoot well, and this ad does scream of being underfunded. The chicks acting however is inexcusable. Maybe a simple gag of someone saying something about having to wait another 30 years for the next game at the end may have helped explain the occasion and finish the ad.
I quite liked, yes they should have spent a little more on the production but i think the audience will enjoy it
Even though there may have been an idea there at some stage I am struggling to see what it was. If three guys going to the rugby is the idea (which is lame to start with) then where are the obstacles / camaraderie / humour that would make a good narrative? The performances are not even bad in a good way. The song suggests something that never seems to eventuate and visually there is no style / genre to speak of. Past Tui campaigns have been strong on both style and narrative. I’m curious to know how this spot has gone so wrong.
