DraftFCB’s Tony Clewett and RAPP Tribal’s Pat Murphy called up for Caples judging duty
DraftFCB Creative Director Tony Clewett and RAPP Tribal Head of Direct Pat Murphy are heading up to New York early next month to join the jury at the 34th John Caples Awards.
This strong kiwi jury presence reflects New Zealand’s recent track record of leading the Gold haul home.
“We’re keen to ensure kiwi creative work gets a fair hearing,” says Clewett (left). “Of course that won’t involve deliberately swaying the jury. Not even a little bit…”.
Both Clewett and and Murphy, who have years of direct marketing experience between them, as well as numerous Caples successes, are relishing the chance to rub shoulders and indulge in a spot of healthy banter with the other 60-odd CDs from around the world.
Caples judging takes place over two days in the heart of Manhattan, on the 3rd and 4th of November. Day one sees the work shortlisted from the hundreds of international entries, with metal debated on the second day.
“This is eventually done through individual ballots,” says Murphy (left). “So we too have to wait until the winners are announced in March to find out the exact colour. Which is bit of a bugger really.”

You’re the best Tony. In every way possible. That shot is wonderful too by the way.
