Rebel Sport launches new brand spot with Abiola Beckley via Ogilvy & Mather NZ and Exit Films
Ogilvy & Mather NZ has created a new brand TVC for Rebel Sport directed by Exit Film’s Greg Wood.
The spot gets into the mind of New Zealand national sprinter, Abiola Beckley. It shows that no one gets sport like Rebel Sport by delving deeper and revealing intriguing facts regarding individual sports. The brand tier will be followed by a strong retail platform featuring the track ‘Feeling Good’ by The Sheepdogs.

but nice to see some craft on screen again.
Awesome until the very last shot. Which is a compliment.
Nice spot. Nicely shot.
Pity Rebel Sport don’t live up to the promise. The place is just a jumble sale.
Line segues nicely into their retail line too. Good job.
In an area which Nike and adidas have turned over so thoroughly that it is scorched Earth, this ad still manage to say something. Well done all concerned.
It actually stand ups well to some of the Nike-das efforts.
I am embarrassed and apologise for the two obvious typos in my post above (3:11).
It hope it does not take away from the sentiment expressed. It is not high praise to be admired by an illiterate.
Good track.
National Sprinter how? Never seen him race in my life. He doesn’t have any times posted either? Get your facts right rebel sport the kid is a Model and nothing but! Give the real NZ track athletes the exposure they deserve.
Really nice, as something mentioned – Refreshing to see something with some actual craft on screen. Great edit, sound track epic – All round stands out on the telly.
Awesome ad.The featured sprinter might be unknown at this stage but he sure grabs your attention. NZ doesn’t have any notable sprinters anyway so good on you Abiola.
He’s a rising athlete, leave your jealousy at the door!
he isn’t the fastest anything. he doesn’t appear in any races on the database.
Fact the fastest time Posted by a New Zealander this year is Joseph Millar with 10.21
Fastest Time by an under 19 male Kodi Harman with 10.45
Fastest time by an under 16 male Austin Heuvel with 10.89
Abiola Beckley has no posted times in the Athletics NZ database and it would most definitely seem that he was young black model picked on the fact he looks like he could be a sprinter.
The guy ran once and was beaten by everyone there. How does this qualify you as a “New Zealand National athlete”
Its a sport… Anything could have happened in that particalar race! Give the athlete a chance guys…
So a NZ national sprinter who hasn’t appeared on any national ranking lists from 2008-present.
Clearly a huge talent… NOT
Abiola Beckley is faster than me, and obviously gives more of a shit about racing than I do. And that’s all that’s needed for this to work. Who the fuck has said that this guy is anything but passionate about what he does? Grow up haters. Or is the sheer ‘craft’ of the spot hurting your eyes? Yes, it does so make him look like a champion doesn’t it?
yep what a shame Rebel Sport. You had some wonderful knwon athletes to choose from and you picked an unknown and represented him as a National New Zealand Sprinter.
Just to comment on what ‘fantastic’ said your very wrong NZ Does have some amazing sprinters like Joseph Miller and Kodi Harman I know some 14 year olds in Aussie that can run faster I think this ad is needing to be withdrawn so we can have a real nz sprinter
Who is he? Never heard of him!! But the add quality is awesome..
I’ve just seen this ad. No one of this name is a New Zealand national sprinter. Please don’t insult our intelligence by stating that as fact.
He’s an up and comer – competed at NZ nationals last year. Didn’t make a great time but his current PB is about a 10.4 I believe. And yes I know Joseph Miller can do better, but for all those people saying it was just a model? STFU.
You are a idiot NZ does have lots of notable athletes one of which is probably going to the commonwealth games this year so if you are going to say stupid crap like what you did please check your facts, that goes for you to Rebel sport
