Media Design School students win Pencil at D&AD New Blood Awards for ‘GrassWhopper’
2017 AdSchool students Adam Redmond and Emerson Hunt graduate from MDS in just a couple of weeks, recently converted their internship at FCB into a full time job, and this week they received the exciting news from London that they’ve won a pencil at the D&AD New Blood Awards for a Burger King idea they came up with for their end of year portfolio.
With eating insects set to be the future of protein, Redmond and Hunt’s idea was all about proving ‘once and for all that everything’s better with fire’ by flame-grilling something you’d never expect to taste good. Grasshoppers.
Says Kate Humphries, CD, AdSchool: “We always urge the students to tackle a D&AD New Blood briefs, despite the fact that the competition hits our students at completely the wrong time of year: when the students are throwing themselves 100% into their internships. So, for Adam and Emerson to stay on top of their internship, while still keeping a keen eye on the international stage, displays exactly the combination of determination, gumption and sheer enthusiasm for ideas they showed throughout their year with us. So, personally, I couldn’t be more pleased for them.”
The New Blood judging panel, which included creative directors from several London agencies as well as Burger King’s global head of brand marketing, looked at hundreds of student entries from all over the world before making their final cut. Redmond and Hunt’s will find out which pencil they’ve won at the New Blood festival Awards Ceremony in London on 12 July.

Nice one Adam! Very well deserved.
There is true genius in that name.
They have taken the image of the burger from the McWhooper site and added a cricket to it? Surely something an art director shouldn’t do
Nice work!
