How hard is it to get a job in another city, while still working at one’s present job?

Just wondering – if looking for work overseas (for instance, Australia), do people think it’s too much of an arse for employers/recruiters to bother with applicants from NZ? And if so, is it essential to quit, move to the city of choice, THEN start looking for work?

It’s easier to find a job when you have one.Saying that though, there are some radical muslims a bit down on numbers in Sydney at the moment. Perhaps you can freelance for them. It’s not hard: Turn up to a fruit market on a Saturday morning, press a trigger. Job done.
depends on your level, book, awards etc. helps if you’ve got a few gongs. bit harder if you’re a junior, prob just have to turn up.also depends where you’re looking. If aussie then there’s a bit about in sydney, not so much in melb. again, all depends on the above as it’s amazing how CD’s will ‘find’ money for someone good. headhunters in syd are better than auck. try FBI, Mary garcia martinez.

HiIt’s very hard to get work in Melbourne. You need to know someone (much like in NZ). I don’t think there’s much work about; heaps of people here only work part-time or on contract, few permanent jobs. Govt says 5%, I say bollocks… they count people doing an hour a week as workers to keep the stats pretty.Recommend getting work before you get to Melb. or having at least three months survival money. Recruitment agencies do almost all of the recruiting in Oz. You’re lucky to get an interview; better off approaching prospective co’s yourself…whether there’s a job or not, who knows.Sydney might be better. I’ve had a couple of calls to relocate but Melb rocks (though you can’t be in a hurry!)Been to a couple of ad agency dos… they were full of dull 20 year olds in graffiti t-shirts. Don’t think the oldies go out – or have they been lost from the business? Most business owners/creatives are male, just like in NZ. YAWN!Cheers
