Yeah i liked the togs/undies one too but c’mon guys, it could have been an ad for anyone. Fruju, L&P, Coke, Snickers, Export, Coastguard… call me a client but would it have killed it to have the guy maybe eating a trumpet?

totally disagree with you thumbs. A creative’s job is to sell specific products or services – not just make people laugh. If it could be for anyone else it’s not a good ad. Thats advertising simplified so eat shit.
Junior creative writes ad, is proud, posts for praise, gets shot down, stands up work work pretending to be other poster, gets shot down. Probably won’t either write a generic ad or post for praise again. All part of lifes learning.
I have not seen them but they do sound a bit generic. Lets remember though these FMCG clients aren’t always the most fun to work on. So if they managed to get something that’s a bit of a laugh out it’s probally not such a bad thing. I mean has there ever been a good ice cream ad (for arguements sake) made in New Zealand?And as for the ‘it could have been for anyone’ arguement it does get a bit annoying. I mean it makes sense in a way but then again it doesn’t. ‘Just do it’ could have just as easily been done for Reebok. The fact is Nike had the balls to do it first.

Personally, I think this one might do OK at the award shows – like thousands of so-called generic ads have done over the years. They were created by recently arrived (ex Marketforce Perth/Clemenger Melbourne) lads Levi Slavin and Dave Govier @ Colenso BBDO, Auckland.

Mmmmm… this is on the CB Blog in reference to the ‘Undies’ spot….After so much debate on this blog about ads borrowing interest from other sources, it’s amusing to see the Trumpet ad. It’s a direct lift from a Tropfest film from a couple of years back. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, in fact it probably helped sell the spot in to a nervous client. I’m sure the large pack shot in the opening frame helped immeasurably too.
I thought the undies /togs add was brilliant i managed to see it when i was in NZ, i want to see it again and show people, can i get it off the trumpet website i wonder?
