It was a huge let down. Now, lets get one thing clear, I was with a bunch of girls who liked the teaser ad. When the main ad came on last night they were all left feeling deflated. One actually said ‘I thought the piggy banks were for the ANZ’. Eh?I think they needed to cut 15 seconds out of the ad. And bad butchering of the Roxy Music track. It felt like something you would do for an animatic.
Has the theme song been used for an early ’90’s (I think) camapign for Steinlager/Rugby World Cup or something big like this?It seemed to trigger a few memories. Can anyone confirm this or not?
It’s a very expensive ad about nothing, following in the tradition of many other very expensive BNZ ads about nothing. Strategically, I didn’t exactly get any blinding insights. How a crass story like that adds up to ‘Bank Smarter’ is beyond me. And using piggy banks in a bank ad is as cliched as shire horses in a beer ad. The direction is cheese – Josh obviously took the money and ran. But on the positive side, the animation’s nice. Especially that wet piggy bank shaking the water off bit.
Well done.Families like it. Kids point at those banks on the street and thenshriek when they see it on tv. A kid’s dream… Mom and Dad get pulled in by the kids and the thought of saving money for university; saving for a house. It works for people saving money.
Kids point at toys and then drag their parents into the shop to buy them. I really can’t imagine kids saying, ” Mummy, lets go an open up a revolving credit account with a floating interest rate of only 8.2 percent”
My BNZ bank manager asked me today if I liked it. Of course, I was topping up the mortgage at the time… loved it!! Absofuckinglutely loved it!! Asked for a piggy bank for my son, but she said they haven’t srrived yet.
I went into BNZ to ask for a piggybank for my kid. The chick gave me a nasty look and said: “They’re not back from the shoot. They’re probably all doing Thai-chi on that fucking island”.Might try again next week.
Just had to wait at an ATM in Ponsonby (across from Colenso) while the mum and kid in front of me were watching a cutdown of the pig ad run on the screen. Funnily enough, neither had anything to say about piggy banks being done before. Pathetic really, you can tell people it’s a tired old idea until you’re blue in the face but they just keep liking it.
130,000 kiwis with negative equity according to proffessor Eves of Lincoln University. They hard sold mortgages while watching the pending crash unfold. 2 billion in underpaid taxes by the banks, with the BNZ the leading offender, according to IRD. 4 billion in profits exported to Australia this year. Better off? Yer right. I recon that little piggy might just be a wolf and that the BNZ know the average kiwi is dumb enough to let it in the house.

Yeah the teaser was cool – is the full whack anywhere I can see?
Thought M&C’s ambush full-page ambush of the piggy bank campaign at the weekend was good – strategically of course, not creatively.
I agree. Well done M&C, Y&R left a gap and you took it.
Your money’s going off-shore.That was my out take of the teaser.(sfx: whistle down)
No, it’s going to a lodge in Queenstown for a ‘rub and tug’.

Not the first time that song has been used, and it won’t be the last. It’s a very “ad” song isn’t it.
Its not the first time piggy banks have been done either, its hardly a orginal creative campaign.

2:52 That’s hardly an original post.

What if you are unemployed? I don’t get it.

I like it.
It’s high on the likeability scale, so I think this is a good thing. Leonard Malten (sic) gives that an 8 out of 10.
My girlfriend loved it. Maybe she was the target, not advertising creatives?
My flatmate giggled and said “That’s a good ad.”
My piggy bank thought it was awesome but thought the CGI pigs lacked real emotion.

In a move designed to counter the threat of waterborne piggybanks, the Iranian navy (with the backing of ANZ) have come up with a clever new underwater missile.http://www.nzherald.co.nz/search/story.cfm?storyid=000534A7-30DF-1430-8DA183027AF1011C
This campaign is the work of Y&R, who somewhat ironically, also have Kiwi Bacon. Pigs. Cute. Eat them.
That Solus on the Herald today was utter shit.It wasn’t even funny.
Nice art direction though.

Which just goes to show you don’t know shit.
In fact you don’t know pig shit!
I liked it too. The bank said they will have ceramic pigs for sale in August.
is the full ad available online anywhere?I’ve been given a mission to track it down and send it overseas… errr, I mean reli’s over seas..
