Fairfax Cannes Young Creatives
It would be good if someone from Fairfax could explain to all the young creatives currently working in the New Zealand industry the thinking behind some of the more restrictive clauses they have put on their competition.
1. Why they have to be working for an agency. This excludes many, including teams on placement who are technically working for nothing or next to nothing anyway and are surely the ones who could most do with winning this sort of prize.
2. Why they have to have current NZ passports. There are lots of young foreign nationals working here.
3. Why the brief is the same as last year. A bit lazy?
Thanks,
F.

You might score a job if you stopped writing on this blog and did some nice ideas for once. Then you could enter the Fairfax competition.
1. If you’re on placement somewhere then ask your CD nicely and he might let you pretend to be employed there. 2. When you get to Cannes, you have to represent NZ in the world young creative comp. If you don’t have a NZ passport then you shouldn’t be representing New Zealand.3. Dunno.
There is a fine tradition of people not from NZ represnting NZ in overseas competition. But really, aren’t such punative rules a crock of shit?
If you’re only pretending to be employed you’ll get found out and booted. Don’t even bother. Get a job.
winning an award gives unemployed creatives jobs
I come on here to find out about usefull information like this comp. Not to muck around or make bullshit comments like you 1:00pm.
Just a thought-Why do you need to hold a NZ passport to enter this competition? The other creatives representing NZ at Cannes this year- Nick Worthington (film) and Matty Burton (Direct) do not hold current passports. Just a bit confused why it is different for young creatives.
good question 2.46, why is that?
FUCK!!!!Those judges are there representing New Zealand agencies…This comp is for young New Zealand Creatives!!!!!!!If you’re gonna keep bitching about it then fuck off back to whatever country you came from and enter it from there.Case closed.
Good call. Still, don’t see why someone isn’t a ‘young NZ Creative’ just because they’re on a placement instead of an employee.
It’s the same for the Axis emerging talent category – you have to be employed by a New Zealand advertising agency to be eligible. My take on it would be that about 90% of grads never actually get a job. They give up when it all becomes too hard. Fairfax are probably on the whole ‘investing in your future’ stance. You need a great level of tenacity as well as talent to make it in advertising.
1:24pm – firstly, this is not an advertising award. Secondly, like who? Whybie & Max? You get a job by consistently cracking briefs, not with a one hit wonder.
I love you all my esteemed peers
Dear Whinger.you have to be under 28… that’s plenty of time to get a real creative job, get fckn good at it, it’s even time enough to do all that and apply for citizenship before lunch. There are a shitload of great eligible creatives here already who have had to tackle the same obstacles as you. Harden up. Get your shit sorted and have another crack next year.
