NZCC hears Ogilvy’s joint creative directors Josh Lancaster and Jamie Hitchcock (pictured) have been lured to Colenso BBDO. Who, if anyone, is replacing them at Ogilvy? More on this when the PR people finish typing the release….

5.06 Colenso already does good work. Plenty of smart people there already. So whats there new role? Is it a step back to a snr team? Or group heads?I think they were crazy leaving Ogilvy. They now enter awards and have all sorts of interesting clients from brand to retail.If they turned that place around they would have been famous- i could even say the next Roy M.But guess what? They didn’t. Alot of people would see it as a F for failed. Thats all people remember.Look at Mike O, he turned up at Colenso when they were average and look what he did, (good work MIKE)Major missed chance, even if the place didn’t smell of roses when they got there.No dig at the two, they nice guys though. Maybe they better ideas people than team leaders. Not everyone is cracked up to be a CD.

Colenso are about to have one of NZ’s best 101 experiences. These boys are a delight to work with and they deliver. As time will tell… By the way 10.51PM, great creatives deliver brilliant ideas no matter what the job title is.

10:51 There’s a big difference between wanting to change an agency and being allowed to do it. It’s the CEO who actually controls how creative an agency is, and until you get a mandate from the top you’re powerless to do anything.Look at any good creative agency in the world and you will find this to be true.
Darryl i have heard your comment many a time. To me it is an excuse not a comment.The UK and european agencies have alot more ceo’s that have been CD’s and this helps. Which can be seen to reinforce your point. ie. mother, BBH, david ogilvy, trott, partners uk, crispin’s and Roys mob here. So it is already at the top.A good cd (existing or up and coming) who is smart and street savey will change any agency. I will referr back to Mike O at colenso when he joined. It took time and he got there. He would have had to build there trust. I bet mangerment didn’t say to mike “go for it buddy, free reign, do what ever ads you want for who ever at what ever the cost. oh and here’s ya gold card to do it. Yea right they did. Maybe we should ask mike though? Mike you out there?Its to easy to blame old partington. Its still a ogilvy brand which has a good creative creds in alot of cities around the world. They will come good.Also i think it’s more the clients that want or do not want great creative. But thats another story.Just my thoughts though.Sorry about the spelling and shit in the other one.
