Awesome… commercial of the year so far.
What website do the Aussies get on the laptop screen in place of Trademe?
Vital detail.
And I assume they replace the bookcase with something too – we all know the convicts can’t read.
Agree – great work.
loving it – would be so happy if that was on my reel. Good stuff.
Aside from the lovely music, lovely apartment and lovely CGI work, I find it a bit..um.. predictable.
Very nicely done – but I can’t help but think we’ve seen this idea with the Motorola Razr V3 ad done a few years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAOdRUStNxY
9.29 – they get eBay.com.au.
Not another shameless rip off by a phone company
I thought Telecom was bad, but this.. mark my words there will be repercussions

Folds. Been done here too.

Oh dear, it has been done. But has the Kiwi public seen the razar ad? No. Will they care, no. Do they love the Telecom ad, probably. What really worries me is why you would go to all the trouble to make a New Zealand ad, but to make it look like it could have been made overseas. DDB are good at this too, a lot of their ads look like they are filmed in Northern England on a cold day.
Was proud to read this is to run in Australia. Cringing now see it’s been done before. Recently. In the same category. And (tough call; maybe I just like the woman in the Moto one) better.
Because he’s overseas you cock. It’s still shit though.
It’s called ‘international’. And if that’s what really worries you, you must have an easy life.
why the australian vo? is this the version that runs in Oz?

Your wit is so dry. You must think you’re awfully clever.
As for Colenso….does anyone think there is any chance they didn’t know about the original ad?
11:22 – Although the Razr V3 ad is from Ogilvy NY, BBDO does enough worldwide work for Motorola (esp AMVBBDO in London) to have known about this.
LOL! Now Colenso has a smoke screen brigade to post rubbish links etc when anyone raises the alarm about their incessant ad nauseum. Actually it isn’t Colenso’s, it’s a disease that comes with the new regime. Hmm… how interesting.
Key difference between this and Motorola – the Motorola ad is big, expense, shiny and completely devoid of any emotional connection = no heart. Whereas with the Vodafone ad, lovely track, likable talent, cute tender moment without laying on the sugar = heart.
It’s called connecting with the consumer – last time I looked, that was the point of the exercise.
So no one else finds it slightly sexist that he folds his girlfriend in his pocket as if she’s just another possession? And no, having a girl creative doesn’t make it okay.
Dear 4.01pm,
I dare say by your comment that you are a girl, probably a lesbian, as no normal thinking person would find him taking the memory of someone he loves with him as an act of sexism you stupid straw-clutching, overall-wearing pug.
Might I also point out to you girl-lesbian that according to the Rules 0f Teh Internets, number 16 to be precise, NO GIRLS ON TEH INTERNET!
Therefore; Tits or GTFO.
If on the other hand you are a guy, you’re talking like a girl, and thus must be gay, meaning you sex boys, meaning you are a girl, and as Rule 16 states NO GIRLS ON TEH INTERNET!
Therefore; Tits or GTFO – Teh Internets is SERIOUS BUSINESS
