SAATCHI SYDNEY TAKE OUT QUINLIVAN BLACK AT CAXTON AWARDS IN PORT DOUGLAS
17 Caxtons for Excellence in Newspaper Advertising were awarded tonightat a gala event at the Sea Temple Resort at Port Douglas during the2008 Caxton Seminar.
Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney was awarded the prestigious QuinlivanBlack Award for the Foxtel/National Geographic Channel ‘Sir EdmundHillary’ newspaper campaign.
The Quinlivan Black Award is chosen each year by the Chairman of Judgesfor one ad or campaign that he feels is best overall for that year.
Says Caxton Awards Chairman of Judges Paul Catmur from Barnes, Catmur& Friends, Auckland: “The Caxton judging was friendly, wellmannered and considered which usually means either the work was ratheraverage or that judges didn’t have any of their own work entered.Neither turned out to be the case and while there may not have been toomany actual ‘balltearers’, we left the room with plenty of scratchesaround the scrotum – apart from Michelle Galluzzo from M&C. We sawsome really nice ads and importantly, some really nice newspaper ads.
“International print award shows are judged by who got away with bestscams so it was good to see some real work surface every now and again.I believe we have some really deserving Caxtons and a good spread ofwork to uphold the tradition of the awards.”
Commenting on the Caxton Award winners this year, Caxton Chairman RobBelgiovane from BWM Sydney said: “It is encouraging to see the qualityof work has improved this year. This year 17 Caxtons were awarded – upfrom just 12 last year – which is a reflection of better creativestandards in our newspaper advertising.
“It’s been a good year overall for Australian print advertising, as wealso performed well at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.Let’s hope the industry continues to take risks to make decent pressads that actually work!”

Bit of a credit malfunction for one of the ads that picked up. On DDB’s entry for SKY TV’s Déjà vu, the creatives credited were Pete Thompson and my good self. The names Duncan McRae and Aidan Elliot should be there too, but somehow slipped through the net. It was probably Pete.
