This Durex Balloon Animals ad (via Fitzgerald+Co, Atlanta) seems to be doing the rounds at the moment –
One blogger suggests it’s pretty similar to this spot done by Y&R New Zealand three years ago ….

Sure looks similar. But I originally saw Walnut the Clown do this trick at a kid’s birthday party in 2004
Didn’t Y&R Argentina do it in ’99? Picked up at Cannes?
Happy 10th birthday, idea.

the original was done well before Y&R auckland’s effort, which was noted at the time.
As I remember the Y&R Auckland idea was on the blog bc it was a rip itself…
You’re right 8:55pm:….

as well as on the CB Blog:…

Proof that an obvious idea is an obvious idea. Literal not lateral, ie average creativity. Sorry.
Campaign Brief Blog 2006:
Y&R AUCKLAND HAVE SOME TWISTED FUN WITH INSPIRAL CONDOMS
Young & Rubicam Auckland has launched a campaign for Inspiral Condoms, called “Twisted Fun”. Elements of the campaign include street posters, A VIRAL EMAIL
, and
ambient – a balloon sculptor out and about at events, dishing out balloon
animals and free condoms. A little bit of fun.
CD: Jeneal Rohrback
Creatives: Charlotte Henry, Amy Cattanach
Art: The Craft Shop
Aw leave off you lot. If Amy and Charlotte are at fault for anything here it’s for not spending every waking moment being ad-wonks and sleeping with a D&AD annual under their pillows. Leave that to the obvious suspects.
The difference between the Fitzgerald ad and the Y&R ad is that the former is way, way funnier and better executed.
