Australian retail shop IdeaWorks has decided to close its New Zealand operation. The agency, which has eight staff, has resigned its clients, including Warehouse Stationery, the $15m account they won from DDB only last year, which has quickly been picked up by M&C Saatchi, Auckland, along with three staff from Ideaworks. The IdeaWorks Auckland office will officially shut its doors at the end of March.

If Ogilvy are at the bottom with retail and are struggling, i can not see how these guys could make money in retail if they sat above them in the market. Can anyone do it cheaper than Ogilvy? They are the kings in this area.
Are we that far away from a time when we just hit a button and your retail ads are spat out the other end? Go Harvey Go Go Go….
I think so.
I wonder who’s idea that was to shut shop cos it’s obviously worked!
I didn’t think Ogilvy were that cheap, maybe on their retail clients but on their other clients the charging regime seems to reflect the old MTC days where many of the non-retail clients were acquired from
In the current climate some agencies are out their offering to work for free (you know who you are) just to try and stay at the table. That’s not good for anyone or the industry.
Not so quickly on Warehouse Stationery, M&C… that one is POISON!
Congrats Baylo. Those who snooze lose. God to see the good people are well and truly awake. Brilliant.
Yep – one big agency is out there pushing digital and direct for free. I wonder if they are willing to do free TV as well?
Check out KR’s blog – as he see’s it it is the year of “win ugly”. What a master stroke business strategy.
Some agencies (you know who you are) are out there offering to do work for free because they can’t win it with talent. So they’re resorting to the only thing they can do well – do it for free and skind the client alive in other cost areas. Fortunately, in the example I’ve heard about, even the clients won’t buy it.
That particular strategy has nothing to do with the current climate and everything to do with no ethics and no ability. And trying to push the client around too if you ask me.
Cowboys and cowgirls. You know who you are.
