NZ scores two Nominations at D&AD

New Zealand has scored two nominations for Yellow Pencils and 10 in-book at the D&AD Awards2009. Australia has also done much better, with a record 10 Nominations and 23 in-book. A list of Nominated work can be downloaded HERE.  Download the Australia and NZ list:

D&ADhas just announced the interim results for the 2009 Awards, with a record breaking 165 nominated entries, including 2 from New Zealand and 10 fromAustralia.

New Zealand has two Nominations: Warehouse ‘The Great Love Conspiracy’ via AIM Proximity Auckland and New Zealand Book Council ‘Read a book at work’ via Colenso BBDO Auckland.

Aussie Nominations include the Carlton Mid ‘Woman Whisperer’ via Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, TED696 Project from BMF Sydney, Schweppes ‘Burst’ via Exit Films, Melbourne, UN Voices Project from Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney, Sony ‘Quantum of Solace’ from Euro RSCG Sydney, and Sydney Dogs & Cats Home ‘Throw us a bone’ from M&C Saatchi, Sydney.

Of the 20,000 pieces of work judged, 717 entries have gone In-Book andwill be included in the D&AD Annual as a record of the best work inadvertising and design this year.  Yellow & Black Pencils will beannounced at the D&AD Awards Ceremony & Dinner in London on 11June. The Annual will be published in September.

Environmental Design and TV & Cinema Crafts lead the nominations, with 14 from each jury.

TheGraphic Design Jury selected the most work to go In-Book, with 112entries – 13 of which were nominated, followed by Poster Advertisingwith 75 entries – 11 of which were nominated.

“I felt a touch ofapprehension before judging began, especially so in a ‘recessionyear’.  Will the work be good enough? Have slashed budgets cutcreativity to the bone?  The results so far show that’s not the case,”said D&AD President Garrick Hamm.  “D&AD is famous for it’stough standards, but this crop of nominations shows that the industrycontinues to produce great work.  Will that translate into arecord-breaking number of Pencils at the ceremony?  That remains to beseen.”

Black Pencil Judging will take place on 7 & 8 May inLondon. Three Black Pencil juries are made up of the Foreman and oneother member of each original jury. Black Pencils are extremely rareand exist to award those pieces of truly groundbreaking work thatredefine their medium. In some years no Black Pencils are awarded.
