In the light of the recent events surrounding the ‘9/11 Ad’ createdbyDDB Brazil for WWF, The One Club, based in New York, which awarded thead a Merit in May, has announced the implementation of what it believesto be the most stringent and thorough ‘fakeads’ policy in the industry, including 5 year bans for the agency and creatives concerned.
The One Club defines ‘fake ads’ as: ads created for nonexistent clientsor made and run without a client’s approval, or ads created expresslyfor award shows that are run once to meet the requirements of a tearsheet.

About time.
Take note DDB. Saatchi. Colenso. Mojo.
Biggest offenders also happen to be biggest award winners.
No coincidence.
I predict that 5 years bans will become the norm. At last.
And let me guess, you haven’t won any awards in the last…well…ever.
Stop bagging everyone and let’s out the real culprits.
Yeah yeah Tom, I’d rather have six figures a year than six figurenes.
Real work pays.
The part of their definition of “fake ads” that NZ agencies will potentially infringe on is “ads created expressly for award shows that are run once to meet the requirements of a tear sheet”. Every agency I’ve worked at is guilty of funding the production and placement of a potentially award winning ad from time to time, but they never do it without the client’s permission. And we all accuse each other of being the biggest scammers when we’re all just the same.
It will be hard for the One Show to prove if an ad is created expressly for award shows as sometimes it’s legitimate that an ad is run only once. But to get around this will agencies start running ads twice to be safe? Or will they ask clients to sign something to prove it is part of a legitimate campaign?
In my personal opinion the much greater crime is running an ad without the client’s permission. If an idea solves a business problem for a client regardless of whether it’s presented as an initiative or in response to a brief, if it’s a genius idea it deserves to be rewarded.
Guessed wrong Tom.
My awards are for real work that was approved by the client, porduced for the client and run ion real media.
Seems not too many can say that anymore. Looks like I’m one of a new elite new breed of creative people who win awards for REAL work. Sounds like you don’t know what that is Tom.
DDBOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!
