The annual Best Design Awards 09, backed by the Designer’s Institute of New Zealand, were held last night at the Auckland Museum.

Auckland based Alt Group, are the toast of the design town, having walked away with a total of 25 awards – more than any other company.

 

For the second year in the row, Alt Group beat out more than 400 other the entries in the graphic design category to take home the Supreme Graphic Design Stringer Award, which was presented for their brand identity book for Auckland based lighting designers, Selecon.

 

In addition to taking home the Stringer, the self-styled Ponsonby ideas company won 10 golds, eight silvers and six bronzes at this year’s premier national design event, which celebrates the very best New Zealand design from the past year across the disciplines of product, spatial and graphic design.

Special Group took another 2 Golds for their multi award winning Green Party campaign – converting both finalists to Gold in the Interactive Media & Website design section and the Environmental Graphics section.

Ogilvy won a bronze (in Environmental Graphics), Shine won 2 bronzes (1 in Environmental Graphics and 1 in Identity Graphics) and Clemenger BBDO won a silver in Graphic Design for their NZ post work.

And Pacific Environments Architects NZ Ltd won a single gold for their design of the Yellow Tree house.
