The first of the Agency of the Year titles has been won, with NBR picking DDB. To read all about it, you’ll need to subscribe or pinch someone’s log in details.
DDB New Zealand ECD Toby Talbot (pictured) is currently celebrating the win, which comes on top of a successful Cannes this year, where the agency picked up two Gold Lions.
The CB Agency of the Year and AdMedia Agency of the Year will be announced in February.

Wouldn’t be hard for them would it?
After the carnage in the rest of the industry, all they had to do was sit there, keep their mouths shut and acheive nothing.
They could have farted and they’d still have got Agency of the Year.
(Still think FCB was a better bet myself.)
I hear DDB did fart. It was a well-executed, highly creative fart.
Let’s see. Record profits in a recession. Top 50 in the Gunn Report. More awards than any other NZ agency at Cannes, Axis and AWARD. They win a bank and lose no clients. You’re right. They’ve had a shit year. Give it to the agency that did Fly Happy. That’s a great idea.
In other words 3:36, you would like to thank god for giving DDB so much … and you so little.
NBR didn’t ask for submissions. Therefore they can’t have evaluated the business results of any agency except DDB their old mates. Because unlike award wins, pitch wins etc, business measures are not public. Unlike the other agencies of the year, NBR is totally arbitrary.
Four agencies won the “5 star agency of the year’ from NBR.
DDB, Colenso, Barnes Catmur and Special.
Three agencies won the 5 star thing, Colenso, Barnes and Special
DDB won the big one. Not 5 star.
Sorry FCB but Happy Flying sucks. You can’t produce shit like that and expect to get agency of the year.
If anything I’d argue Colenso was also deserving, but DDB has done better.
Looks to me like FCB is angry that someones finally seen through their bullshit and spin.
here we go. The FCB puppets come out to play. Sore losers.
Agree. Happy Flying was an embarassment.
Good to see Special getting recognition.
Wow, I didn’t realise DDB was the top NZ agency at Axis, Cannes and AWARD. My perception was that Colenso was on top by a long way on gongs this year. Well done DDB, you are more deserving of Agency of the Year than I thought.
Let’s not slag DraftFCB over one ad, DDB haven’t won because they did Moro.
11.43 Good point, I would say that DraftFCB have had a ‘cracker of a year’ better than 95% of other agencies. So hands off slagging DraftFCB off! There are plenty more juicy prey at there!
They did Moro? Gee that campaign is truly awful – even the “fourth best” tagline aspires to mediocrity.
FCB are deluded if they think they can kick it with the likes of Colenso and DDB.
I work at DraftFCB and I think we must be making progress given the number of people jumping on board to slag us off these days. When we were no threat we were just ignored. We may not be as successful as DDB and Colenso at winning creative awards but we are getting closer (only two bronzes behind NZ’s top ranked agency, DDB at AWARD). I like working for the underdog and while you may think I’m deluded, I’m going to continue to strive to improve our creative output to foot it with Colenso and DDB. I’m confident we’ll get there.
Things can change quickly… but yeah FCB are nerds.
Are you guys really comparing 4th best to the Macarena version of the rapping flight attendant?
9.25 the issue is with FCB being sore losers and pissing on DDB’s parade.
Happy Flying is a long way behind anything DDB and Colenso are producing. Hell, Id even say Ogilvy’s got the hop on you guys, creatively.
Are you sure it’s FCB pissing on DDB’s parade? I’ve never heard anyone slag off DDB in our office, in fact I regularly hear praise for DDB, Colenso and great work from other agencies.
If it did come from FCB I am embarassed and apologise to you, and please know that it’s not the general feeling from within our office.
