Axis 1980-2010: celebrating 30 years of creativity

Axis is celebrating 30 years in 2010, and Axis Awards president Andy Blood (left), ECD of TBWA\Whybin, Auckland, is looking for any anecdotes about the early days of Axis:

These days, everyone is an innovator, a director, a producer, and a broadcaster (perhaps we need more editors?) but as we rush headlong into the digital age, and celebrate the new rich multi dimensional canvasses available to us all, it’s also time to celebrate the renegades and innovators of the last 30 years.

Back in 1980, creative tools looked disarmingly lo fi: Letraset, magic markers, tracing paper, black and white fax machines, Polaroid cameras, VHS recorders, tapes and vinyl.

And media (by today’s standards) looked pretty limiting: TV, radio, print, and outdoor.

Or perhaps it’s actually the other way round.

Perhaps in 1980, you needed to be more of a maverick, a renegade, andan innovator, to make your mark. Well, in March, we’ll see.
