Star UK copywriter Clive Pickering flies in to help Saatchi & Saatchi on Westpac pitch against .99
CB hears award-winning UK copywriter and creative director Clive Pickering has been brought in by Dylan Harrison, the new executive creative director of Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand to work on a special project, thought to be defending part of the Westpac business in a pitch against .99 (or Colenso BBDO, depending on who you talk to).
During his career Pickering has worked for BMP DDB, BBH, TBWA and Lowe London and has created an impressive body of work including the 1999 Volkswagen ‘Wedding Photographer’ print ad at BMP DDB and the 2003 Johnnie Walker ‘Fish’ TVC at BBH, both winning Gold Lions at Cannes.

Does this mean it will just be more embarrassing when Saatchi & Saatchi lose?
Hospital pass?
Will Saatchi put the ads he did for all “non-saatchi agencies” in their pitch creds. If not he is just a name and if they do they are desperate and it will look real bad. Weird situation to be in.
hello Saatchi & Saatchi
dare i say it but nice to nice to have you back.
watch out lads, get sharpen your sharpies…..its on.
When he’s finished that “special project” maybe he can move on to, um, defending Telecom against every other agency and consultant in town. Guarantee they’ll be looking to advertising – rightly or wrongly – as part of the fix. A big part of the discussion this week has been around how ready Telecom has been to spend huge on ads (e.g., Hammond and the animated thing) rather than service or people (e.g. firing local call centre workers in favour of Phillipino ones).
If I were them I’d be looking to the Air NZ model, kissing big production numbers goodbye and getting nimble. If only that were in Telecom’s DNA …
8.09am do you think that it’s only been recently that everyone is after Telecom? I think not little man. It would have been top of most agencies new business list since whenever.
Go Clive! A very good copywriter! Saatchi & Saatchi have hit gold!
Cowering in the face of .99?
Saatchi have really lost their touch.
Saatchi’s are battling.
As well as being one of the most talented guys in advertising he’s also one of the nicest. Onya Clive. Bec Campbell
Fish man takes first step onto beach. Cut to rate graphic with doodle.
And 11.29am makes comment of the year…… It’s funny, because it’s true.
