Saatchi & Saatchi scoops Sanitarium
Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand has won the hotly contested Sanitarium account, marking a new creative direction for the health food company’s iconic Kiwi brands after a decade with Ogilvy.
The win is a major victory for the agency under the new leadership of CEO Nicky Bell and ECD Dylan Harrison.
“The Sanitarium team had a real choice in partners. We’re humbled that they have entrusted us with responsibility for their beloved brands; in fact, some of New Zealand’s best loved brands,” said Bell.
“Brands like Weet-Bix and Marmite hold a special place in the hearts of all Kiwis. We aim to stay true to Sanitarium’s honesty and authenticity, and to build on that to encourage even greater consumer participation and involvement.”
The account win extends across all of Sanitarium’s popular breakfast foods brands, including both cereals and beverages. The business went to pitch in early March.
Sanitarium marketing manager Mark Roper was excited to be working with Saatchi & Saatchi.
“It was clear from the outset in our meetings with Nicky, Dylan and the Saatchi team that we shared mutual values. They had fresh strategic insights and a real passion for our brands and their potential. We look forward to building a long-term relationship with the agency,” he said.
The media business handled by SparkPHD is not affected.

Nice one Scratchies, nice to see some good news about you. Have a party, you deserve it.
But no drinking! Or dinosaurs Or aliens. And you may have to change the name of the department to the Creation Department. With Creation Directors and Executive Creation Directors…
Do they know how big the creative department isn’t?
Nice work new team at Saatchi’s.
“It’s six foot, seven foot, eight foot, BUNCH!
(Daylight come and he wan’ go home)

Yee Haa! Harri-Bell lafonte Rocks!
Yep, that’ll wake this town up! Good on you guys.
About time that the big red company got a reality check. Smart move.
Did the Kiwibank post just get removed or what?
Bad week for the Greys Ave Retirement Village – two CD’s departing and missing out on this pitch.
Bad luck Ogilvy.
I reckon a great creative starts the day with ten or eleven weetbix. I reckon the guys at Ogilvy eat special K
Yep, LOL! I second that… “Harri-Bell lafonte Rocks!”
You inherited that a/c when you bought out Ogilvy, and have done a crap job of it ever since!
So who where the other guys who pitched? Come on people, lets name and SHAME!
So nice to read some good news about Saatchi’s. Looks like rock bottom is over – you’re on your way back up! And your new CEO is a hottie, just thought I’d say.
Who were they up against??
The Sanitarium team at Ogilvy should be proud of what they achieved. They did a bloody amazing job with that account, go knows it wasn’t easy.
Congrats on the win and best of luck to Saatchi’s.
Crackin’ news ! Lush !
LOL and LOL.
Not a good past few weeks for Ogilvy with this and their employment issues article in the Sunday paper a couple of weeks ago.
The Ogilvy team did a great job on the account. They should be commended for their efforts and brand stewardship.
Congrats to Saatchis and Sanitarium – look forward to your joint efforts.
DDB were on the pitch list. Second again.
Ogilvys interactive department is shite…bad ideas and very messy craft, can we have a new digi CD please before we fall further behind!
Great win Saatchi’s. Fantastic fresh start.
Yes 3.56, they don’t win pitches. Brilliant at Sky ads but obviously struggle with big pitch winning ideas. Or maybe the chemistry is no good. Something is wrong.
Eerm, the Sky ads aren’t that great. The last one that featured on CB made no sense.
Word on the street is that the client/agency relationship has moved into the dreaded ‘Watch This Space’ department.
well done death star, the force seems strong in you again…
7:50 there seems to be a lot of ‘word on the street’ with ddb.
not a lot stays inside that building does it…
4.13pm. To clarify. It was word from another agency, not word from the street.
Ironically, I didn’t hear the ‘word’ on a street, the conversation happened on a road; Ponsonby Road.
It was a topic of conversation between the MD of a media company and the CEO of an agency.
I just leant them my ear. And now it’s on here. Hey, better than Facebook.
Shot Saatchis. Good to see.
A lot of bitches on the blong arnt there. What happened cant get a job anywhere else so you spend your day ripping others apart? Get a life or do some decent work of your own….
Amen.
Is that you Greg?
1:24 had a couple of beers for lunch. Hoo-wah!
No, just over ‘anonymous’ people commenting on things that they know nothing about. Get a life and do some decent work of your own or at least have the balls to put your name on it if you are going to rip into other people… so tough….
What’s all this about DDB coming second? They were a distant third, just ahead of Ogilvy.
Definitely Greg. His prose are unmistakable.
it was Saatchi, DDB, Ogilvys and BCG.
The final pitch was down to S&S, DDB, Ogilvy and BCG.
I hear the final two was down to S&S and BCG with G2 (they’re merging). S&S only just got it.
BCG is a vaccine that you get to protect yourself from tuberculosis. Really!
On the question of merging… I hope it a simple ‘addition’ merge and not ‘multiplication’, because anything multiplied by zero is zero – and that’s what G2 is.
Nope JT, assuming you meant me, none of the above posts were mine. I don’t post anonymously.
This post however, is. Ogilvy Interactives last major online campaign for Sanitarium was Stat Attack II and I remain proud to have worked with the very talented Ogilvy team who put this together. It secured over 50,000 unique players resulting in 100,000’s of online games being played over 10,000’s of hours – a bad idea or poor craft? I don’t think so – but that’s just my opinion.
It is also my opinion that ‘anonymous’ negative posts are the last bastion of the talentless and the spineless. Sadly, if you lack the nuts to put your name to your work, this industry isn’t for you – your career prospects are probably better flipping burgers (then again maybe thats why your appear to be so bitter?)
Best of luck to Saatchis & Sanitarium – I look forward to seeing what you produce together.
LOL?
I hear the final two was down to S&S and Ogilvy. S&S only just got it though.
