Another 9/11 controversy looms over Saatchi & Saatchi Paris print ad for Courrier International

With the ninth anniversary of 9/11 just days away, Saatchi& Saatchi Paris has released a Twin Towers themed print ad for Courrier International – the Paris-based French weeklynewspaper which translates and publishes excerpts of articles from over900 international newspapers – that isbound to upset the Americans.
Not for the same reasons as DDBBrazil’s much publicised WWF scam adthat stirred up award shows and saw atoughening of entry rules, but Americans, justifiably, do get veryoffended by tasteless 9/11 themed ads. The ad is getting panned on Ads of the World and has just popped up on Adfreak.

…and will the French care?
I think not.
‘We need to do an ad that’s going to get noticed’
‘Holocaust humour?’
‘Nah, can’t do that, all those people died’
‘How about 9/11’
‘Genius, that will really stir things up and it was only what, 3000 people dead’
They really thought this one through didn’t they?
There’s a few things on my don’t list…
-no arms and legs
-no little kids
-no ad with a proposition “Life is easier…”
-no shadows
-no disembodied hands coming into the ad
-no wedding portraits
-no George W. Bush
-no dogs wearing sunglasses
-no twin towers
2:03 You’re a real “can do person” aren’t you.
-no grammar.
