Man like natural: Speights Summit gets back to basics in new TVC via Mojo Sydney+Auckland

Man is a fairly uncomplicated creature. Strip him down to his basic desires and you’ll find a common instinct for getting back to nature, to be part of the great outdoors. It’s completely natural, just like Lion Nathan’s deep southern New Zealand brew, Speight’s Summit, as illustrated in this new spot via Publicis Mojo, Sydney and Auckland.

Man Like Ad! In fact I like this so much that I am actually thinking of picking up some summit on the way home. Assuming of course that I actually make it home, and don’t end up all beardy and “natural” in the middle of a forest somewhere… but at least if I do, there’ll be summit there. Grows on rocks, you see. Mmmm, rocks.
Love it. Best NZ beer spot in quite some time. Definitely a return to form for the Speights family. Soundtrack is genius.
best beer ad out of nz in years
What was the Publicis Auckland contribution?
Like the choir music, like the ‘Man Like’ phrases. Real step up from the last kea thing.
i think it’s better than good. Beautifully shot, nice sense of humour. Well done.
Now that we have comments from the ECD, CD’s, Suit and Producer out of the way – what do the rest of you think? Yeah, it’s shit right.
Think I must be watching a different ad to everyone else.
Oh god. Make it stop. Shocking.
On ya Dom, nice ad mate.
This is conclusive proof that Aussies make better beer ads than Kiwis. Pains me to say it but it’s true. Apart from Dom suiting it and Ayson (genius) directing it, it’s Aussie creatives all the way.
Brilliant.
Nice work lads, punching a pig is funny.
Thanks for the comments Mojo people. But it ain’t all that.
Still, better than that one you shot in africa whatever that was all about???
Hate to be one of the naysayers, but here’s my take on what happened – just reading between the lines:
1. Agency’s track record is somewhat shit on creating decent beer ads for client.
2. Client ultimatum is looming (or arrived).
3. In desperation (or maybe a regional directive), Agency outsources to Oz office.
4. It turns out that shit is actually a trans-Tasman policy.
5. Effect Plan B by spamming CB blog with ‘OMG! That is awesome’ comments.
6. Hope that no one notices.
Anyone else feeling it?
I disagree – sure Mojo has been whacking this brand with the ugly stick lately. The traverse Lions & GMA home invasion ads are benchmark terrible, and they don’t have a choice but to outsource the strategy & creative offshore because the NZ agency is staffed by part time management & junior teams working for the free bread & spreads in the kitchen while senior talent is busy sinking Fonterra for greenpeace while simultaneously working on Meadow Fresh. But the point is – this ad is quite good. It’s funny. doesn’t make me want to drink it though.
hey 1.00pm not sure where you have been but they’ve done a few good beer campaigns in the past. You still bitter you din’t win the LR & WD business…
Yep.
Their staff are even spamming Facebook with OMGs and LOLs.
Good? how? Seriously fucking dumb. And certain to be a big hit with Speights drinkers
Sorry, disagree. Really fresh, relevant idea, and very well executed. Well done all.
It’s not a fresh idea by a mile, but a good execution of man want beer not busy modern world.
Yeah, sorry Club Naysay but I’m going to stick my metaphoric balls on your monitors and teabag your incessant whinging with a positive remark – “I like it.” Now fuck off and eat a bag of dicks.
