Droga5 takes a long-copy house ad in the Australian: let’s have more fun in 2011
It’s been a long time since an ad agency bought serious space in a national newspaper to promote themselves, and that is just what Droga5 Australia has done, taking out an ad in today’s Australian newspaper.
The CB Blog – and its anonymous comments – comes in for a bit of stick of course in the long-copy advertisement, written by D5 creative chairman David Nobay, who was also art director and typographer, four years after he wrote this opinion piece.
The last time CB can remember an agency in this region advertising themselves was back in April 2009 when BBH Asia-Pacific ran an ad in Media that carried the headline “What would happen to our business if all the agencies in Asia stopped doing scam ads this year?”
The Australian’s Simon Canning applauds the Droga5 ad online in today’s Media section

Go on, someone moan about the lack of digital.
Someone at Droga has obviously seen the final season of Mad Men….
So boring i could not get the second column.
It’s not my fault i was born in 85, not 55.
Not sure what to think really.
I fell asleep halfway through. Just confirms that advertising is a wank, to the people who most strongly suspect it – the general public.
This crap was written by ad people….shame on you. Boring as hell!
The perfect tool for reminding us all of the perils of over-reaching creatively.
He means the blog, not himself right?

– sorry Special did it a couple of years back. But I actually remember reading it all.
What a pack of c**nts.
How dare you speak for me, or my workmates.
We’ve been having an absolute ball this year. And I know many others in the industry who’ve been having fun also. It’s not all the doom and gloom you speak of. Sorry business ain’t going so well you you, and that you’re not having as much fun as you’d like. But that’s probably what you get when you bite a bit more off that you can chew and it doesn’t turn out to be as universally loved or ground breaking as you desperately hoped it would be.
Go and shove that self pretentious drivel up your collective anuses and stop being so bloody serious yourselves.
Pretentious moi?
And that type face upset my Grandma.
Bad type, boring and really condescending – I don’t see the point at all.
