DraftFCB’s ‘The Journal’ for the Ministry of Health wins a record 10 awards at the RSVP and Nexus Awards including two best of shows

DraftFCB’s Ministry of Health campaign ‘The Journal’ dominated the Marketing Association’s RSVP and Nexus Awards tonight, taking out 10 awards, including both the RSVP Grand Prix and the Nexus Supreme Awards for 2010, a feat never achieved by one entrant before.
It also picked up three RSVP golds, two Nexus golds and three of the eight RSVP Craft categories. Never before has one agency with one campaign for one client achieved so much in the 23-year history of the awards
Sponsored by New Zealand Post – who has been supporters of the Awards since their inception – the ceremony took place at The Langham Hotel in Auckland tonight.
‘The Journal’ saw a major step change in the social marketing space by mentoring people with depression in an entirely online environment, creating an end-to-end pathway for people to find a way through depression with personalised support and access to medical expertise when required.
“Strategic vision, innovation, customer engagement and retention – every element a winner in its own right. What an outstanding achievement,” says Sue McCarty, chief executive at the Marketing Association of The Journal.
Affinity ID, justONE, bcg2, Republik and Colenso BBDO helped keep things interesting with gold-winning performances.
JustOne and .99 picked up two gold RSVP awards for the Farmers Trading Companies’ ‘Farmers Beauty Club extreme makeover’ and JustOne picked up a third gold RSVP award for Subway’s ‘Text to Win’. JustOne also picked up a gold Nexus award for Subway’s ‘Making lunch a faster easier experience.’

Colenso BBDO picked up two gold RSVP awards, for Colenso BBDO for TVNZ’s ‘The Pacific’ and for Frucor’s ‘V Pocket Rocket’.
Gold RSVP Awards also went to Republik for Fuji Xerox’s ‘Fujikistan’, and to bcg2 for Lion Nathan’s ‘Grant’s Corner to Corner’.
Furthermore, three gold Nexus awards went to Affinity ID for Air New Zealand’s ‘Airpoints Magazine’, Progressive Enterprises ‘Converting Insights to Sales – Store by Store’ and for Vodafone’s ‘Customer Engagement Program’.
Apart from DraftFCB’s three RSVP Craft awards for ‘The Journal’, it was a winner in Craft for Genesis Energy’s ‘Kustom Konnections’ and Sky Television’s ‘How Don are you?’.
Other Craft RSVP winners were Republik for Fuji Xerox’s ‘Fujikistan’, Colenson BBDO for TVNZ’s ‘The Pacific’ and Affinity ID for Vodafone’s ‘Customer Engagement Program’.
The New Zealand Post Student Marketer of the Year was awarded to Erin Gulyas and Christabel Spong from AUT University for ‘It’s a better choice than your last resort’.
A number of first-time entrants and companies submitted their own work, including Gladeye with their client House of Travel (two silvers), The New Zealand Herald (two bronzes), MediaWorks Radio (one bronze) and ChildFund New Zealand (RSVP Craft Runner-up).

Credit where credit is due, well done Draft.
Not sure about the record claim, as some long in the tooth will recall Aim Direct’s work for Global plus wiped out the night ten years ago.
Nice work Draft.
Just for clarification – the record is that DraftFCB won both the RSVP Grand Prix and Nexus Supreme Awards.
Aim’s haul was helped by claims that year the results were fixed – leading to the famous RSVP boycott of 2002
Aim’s global plus haul was in fact in 1999 so 3 years before the ‘boycott’, which was a sham as aim still dominated the awards for a few years after that. The boycott was an unashamed attack on one man who did not deserve that and it was wrong. And no I did not work for him.
Really 8:15? The boycott was based on the fact that an Aim campaign that NONE of the judges voted for won Best in Show. As you can imagine this came as a surprise to the judges on the night, leading to the swapping of notes and the outing. Aim certainly did not dominate the awards after that.
