Waitemata Films signs Paolo Rotondo

Award winning filmmaker Paolo Rotondo and his producer Caroline Biddles have joined Waitemata Films. Rotondo has had an extensive career on both sides of the camera and is a well-known personality in the NZ Film and Television industry.

As well as acting in several of the country’s most successful films and TV programs, Rotondo has developed a reputation as a noteworthy director with his two NZ Film Commission funded short films received with great acclaim here and overseas.

Called The Freezer and Dead Letters, the films accurately depict life in New Zealand and illustrate Rotondo’s talent for delivering natural performances, sumptuous visuals and concise story telling.

Says Rotondo: “I’ve done loads of stuff in this industry but all people ever say to me is ‘you look taller on the telly’. So now I’m going to be spending a lot more time behind the camera. I’m really excited about making the move into directing TVCs, I feel right at home with Waitemata Films and I can’t wait to get stuck in”.

Producer Johnny Blick and director Mike Oldershaw from Waitemata Films agree that Rotondo has what it takes to be a great success as a TVC director if he would just stop wearing his ridiculous ‘theatre tights’ to work.
