KW_hero_RGB72DPI.jpgAuckland based multidisciplinary design firm, Alt Group, has been selected as an Official Honoree in the Fashion category of the 2011 Webby Awards for their design of the Karen Walker website.

The Webby Awards is the Internet’s most respected symbol of success and this year’s Awards, the 15th Annual Webby Awards, received 10,000 entries from 60 countries. The official Honoree distinction is awarded to the top 10 per cent of all work entered, which includes websites, online, film, video, mobile and apps, and interactive advertising and media.

Winners are chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts andSciences, whose members include such luminaries as David Bowie, Twitterco-founder Biz Stone, and Huffington Post founder Ariana Huffington.

Alt Group is among 12 Official Honorees in the Fashion category, amongsuch global brands as Uniqlo, UK based ASOS Marketplace and Italianluxury leather firm Bottega Veneta.

Kris Lane, online strategist at Alt Group says that the reality ofcreating a fashion website is with each season you “rip it up” andstart over. Alt Group has worked with Karen since 2000 but Lane saysthe site’s design purposely embodies the Karen Walker celebration ofthe outsider.

Says Lane: “Karen Walker is a fashion brand with effortless style witha recurring theme of taking extremes and pushing them together, such asmasculine and feminine, tailored and street, luxury and non luxury. Ourrole is to translate that into online space. Karen Walker is known tobuck conventions.”

The website has grown as Karen Walker expands her global empire, including paint, eyewear, jewellery and a travel site for “people likeus”.

Lane says Alt is honoured by their selection as it reinforces KarenWalker as one of the best fashion websites, against such online giantssuch as ASOS and Uniqlo.
