AWARD School Auckland set for July launch – headed by DDB’s Fedyszyn and McMahon

AWARD School, powered by the Communications Council, is set to launch in Auckland. The prestigious 16 week course will launch and start late July.
The programme will be headed by DDB New Zealand’s creative duo Lisa Fedyszyn and Jonathan McMahon (pictured), graduates of Melbourne AWARD School back in 2002, now one of the hottest teams in the world.
“We’re very excited to be School Heads for Auckland. As ex students we both know the value of the programme, and it’s great to be able to give something back,” says Fedyszyn on the appointment of her and McMahon as AWARD School NZ heads.
In previous years the AWARD School programme has been offered in Wellington and now for the first time in Auckland. “AWARD School is widely recognised in the region as nurturing generations of successful young talent in the creative industries. The short 16 week programme will be tailored to suit the Auckland market which we believe will complement the longer term training programmes already available in Auckland”, says Daniel Leesong, CEO, The Communications Council.
“It’s great for the industry to add AWARD School to the training mix, I have worked with some fantastic creatives who are AWARD School graduates and Droga5 looks forward to supporting the industry programme locally”, says Guy Roberts (left), creative director, Droga5, Auckland.
The application brief and entry criteria will be available to download from www.awardschool.co.nz on Friday 20th May 2011.

This is sticking the knife into AUT and MDS to fly the Australian flag.
so glad! the Australians have arrived to tell us bumpkins how to do it properly!
lets hope the students turn out ‘nice’.
Scams ‘R’ Us to teach kids. Oh great.
“…and it’s great to be able to give something back.”
Why don’t you start with all the awards won for scam work. One of the hottest teams in playing the system; one of the coldest in most other aspects.
Yeah that’s what we need, another ad school.
no need to make this personal and attack jonno and lisa. they’ve won a truckload of awards and any one of us would love to be in the same position. any kind of award winning ad takes hard work and talent and they’ve got plenty of that. they’ll make great mentors for any young creative but i agree, we DO NOT need another ad school for a country that offers a grand total of four-six new jobs a year.
I’m looking forward to not paying the grads for a year or so, then whack them on $25K for six months, nudge it up a little to $30K, then tell them to stop working on scams and really stupid experiential shit and start writing ads that the client wants.
When they get pissed off I’ll bring in another swag of students to help freeze them out. By that stage I’ll be repeating the process all over again.
So many students, so little time, even less money.
as a student who is preparing an application for this course, I’m wondering why people here are less than enthusiastic about it?
From what I have heard, it’s a respected course and when there’s such a shortage of new jobs, it makes sense to have as many strings to one’s bow as possible no?
Congratulations Lisa and Jonathan for starting up AWARD School in Auckland.
Also thanks to those top creatives you’ve wrangled to share their knowledge.
Not all graduates will find jobs in agencies but what the training does is fan the creative spark within them. It gives them the knowledge and emerging confidence to believe in their ability, themselves and to pursue their creativity in many other creative applications. I’ve seen it many times”.

Ray
