Special’s Rob Jack wows Cannes audience

rob jack.jpgBelieved to be the very first time an agency from New Zealand has been asked to talk at Cannes, Special CD Rob Jack’s (pictured) presentation was a real hit with the packed Debussy Theatre.

William Mace from Fairfax wrote “Special Group creative partner and co-founder Rob Jack had been asked to join two other speakers in demonstrating the creative powers which can emerge from independent agencies. Cannes is usually dominated by the large networks although much of the most creatively awarded work comes out of ‘indies’ – Special’s Grand Prix-awarded Iggy Pop project from last year is an example.

Jack held a packed Debussy auditorium in the palm of his hand as he displayed some of the work Special has done in the last year – particularly the Smirnoff Night Project – which drew a response for its audacity in producing what were, in effect, a series of content-driven, programme-length advertisements. He made it clear that going solo, without a multi-national network to back you up, was a hard grind but it also fostered some ground-breaking ideas.”
