Cheeky Y&R Wellington press ad offers punters a paper All Blacks jersey to allow for beer money
August 22 2011, 2:33 pm | | 23 Comments

Outrageous prices for replica All Blacks jerseys have seen sportswear giant, Adidas, publicly scolded by the Prime Minister, ex-All Backs, retailers, and most significantly, the fans.
What if Tuatara Breweries had the solution?
Cheekily, Y&R Wellington created a cheaper version of the All Black jersey in the New Zealand Herald.
Available to the masses and affordable at $2 (price of the NZ Herald) – the agency is ensuring NZ will back black while still having the cash to drink good beer too.
Simply cut and fold.

Best ad from Y&R in Years
Last ad from Y&R?
Great piece of creative. Well done.
I like it … but did it really take FIVE creatives?
nice
Much better than the Moa idea
Wait Jason is the ECD again? Is that other bloke not turning up?
My arms are going to get really tied doing that for an entire game.
FAIL.
2 young creatives come up with a nice idea and the entire agency jumps on the band wagon! Shameless!
Wait its not two page ad?
So now the ‘Ideas Director’ is the ECD? Not the EID? What gives Y&R? Has Josh Moore done the smart thing and decided to stay in Aus?
Dear Harsh but fair,
I imagine you are a suit. Any decent creative would realise two small strips of sellotape on the shoulders would hold it in place. If you, like me, have a slightly rotund belly, some tape at the sides will help pull it into shape.
Seeing as you seem to struggle with basic paper mechanics, here’s another tip you might have missed; if you fold the toilet paper you won’t end up with muddy nails. Amazing!
I have two copies of this on my wall, in its assembled and unassembled state. I like it that much.
I’m not sure about the exciting politics. But I do like the ad.
Good point Mike, 🙂
Some follow up i.e handouts before games would really make an impression.
Like it. But how did the Creative Planner morph into ECD? And it is not really necessary to go out of your way to put ‘junior’ in front of ‘copywriter’ and ‘art director’ is it? In fact, it’s a bit cunty. I hope a decent agency picks them up.
PS Firm but Fair. I’d say your post was a FAIL except I try to avoid cliches as trite and worn out as ‘FAIL’.
awesome work Lou and Nicole

Massey Represent
Nice work guys, great clean simple thought.
I hear you’re ex Massey – so am.
Looking forward to working with you soon.
Regards, J
LOVE IT! Just shows you don’t need to have years of experience to have great ideas. Y&R – get these guys on permanent staff before another agency snaps them up!!!
If Josh does come will it still be Y&R he’s coming to?
Can someone please tell who this jason wells person is and what actual qualifications he has to call himself an ECD?
