String Theory Auckland creates animated spot for not-for-profit online bookstore Goodbooks
String Theory has created a campaign for Goodbooks, the online bookstore that gives 100% of profits to charity through Oxfam.
Says Jeremy Taine from String Theory: “My partner and I started this 6 years ago – and as far as we know it is still the only zero-expenditure charity in the world. All work is donated gratis. At the end of last year I wrote a campaign telling the Goodbooks’ story in the style of famous authors. My producer then hawked the scripts around the best animation houses in the world.”
Taine added: “The Goodbooks’ story is in the style of Hunter S Thompson as told by the mighty Buck TV in LA – I’m sure you will have heard of them. They even talked Antfood in NY into doing the soundtrack for us. We’re pretty stoked with the result, since we launched on Tuesday it has garnered something like 42,000 views on Vimeo and has been featured on the Huffington Post blog and in the Washington Post – amongst others. Watch this space for the next one.”

I’m blown away.
Amazing.
Hats off. Brilliant stuff.
Fuck that was good.
Superb job. Johnny Depp or spot-on sound-alike?
Yep, fantastic. Well done.
I came.
Goodbooks. Good work.
Gold.
Great piece of work.
Take away client and budget contraints and you get something incredible.
Learning: get better client and bigger budgets. Done.
But, I have nothing negative to say about this.
This is pretty bloody good.
Yep – Bigger budgets?? This is a charity business so everything is donated, the time, the track, the VO, the creative.
Amazing ad for an amazing business. Jane and Jeremy you are awesome.
We all love Jeremy, of course we do, but the Proof section of the String Theory website is a little light on String Theory work. Just sayin.
We love the video and love that ethos behind Good Books. Very refreshing from here in NZ. This is what we are encouraging with the Y for YOUTH project. yforyouth.org
