Tommy and Boris back for Telecom in new ad blitz for Open Smartphone plans via Saatchi’s NZ
When Telecom NZ’s Tommy and Boris launched onto New Zealand TV screens earlier this year the lovable duo quickly became stars of the country’s favourite TV ad.
Now the bright-eyed Tommy and his pet turtle are back delivering more great value with their subtle humour and characteristic charm.
In the second round of the campaign, launched this week, Telecom and Saatchi & Saatchi promote Telecom’s brand new Open Smartphone plans â Telecom’s best ever.
‘Escape’ is the first in a series of planned TV and radio executions that will be rolling out in the lead up to Christmas. Kiwis can expect to see more Tommy and Boris out and about as well as continuing character development of Mum, Dad and sister.

killing it. I want to not like the turtle because NZ loves the turtle but it just keeps working really really well.
spot on execution. Spot on tone.
a kid too that will not got too sickly sweet. Great casting.
Vodafone and 2 degrees must be hating life.
Judging by Vodafones latest (in joke) attempt at parodying the turtle, “metaphor”, desperation has set in.
Corey and Gus seem to be winning convincingly. awesome work that makes you forget you’re watching retail as it works it’s arse off as brand work as well.
Well said Corey.
Not too sickly sweet? Maybe. Annoying? Yes.
Completely baffled how you can give such an overblown review to such a vanilla-turd swirl. Calm down.
The turtle is just Spot, if Spot was a green rock.
