Westpac encourages New Zealanders to start asking questions in new spot via DDB NZ
Last night Westpac launched its latest TV spot – part of its multi-channel campaign via DDB NZ.
The campaign encourages all New Zealanders to ‘start asking’ questions about their money so Westpac can provide the answers.

Nice tune
Bloody awesome to see something from a bank that’s trying to do a bit of good.
Cool
Is that it? Message / outake quite good but did someone there see the New World spots and decide to use stock footage in an inventive way again?
I actually quite like this
Hmmm. I liked watching it, but the pivot at the end from a nice film about NZ to an ad for a bank is tenuous at best. There’s a long run for a very short – and unsatisfying – slide.
Is this rubbish? Does this have anything to do with a bank?
It’s actually pretty good. And from Westpac that’s saying something. Their work to date has been horrid.
Pretty bold to lay a challenging insight right in front of the audience at the end. Can’t decide if that’s a good or a blunt thing to do. I like the story that leads up to it, and the music helps.
It’s nicely done. Interesting to see what comes next.(I don’t think New World have a monopoly on stock footage usage).
The films is OK. The social stuff is a good start – they could do a lot more in social and online if they’re really serious about asking/answering money questions.
Trying to do a bit of good? where are these coming from? someone fire up the X-Wing…
But yes nice to see a well crafted ad, I like it.
Westpac have my interest at heart… and they love it when I start asking for a better rate.
Are most of the posters on here on crack?
This is the oldest and corniest strategy in New Zealand. It’s the last resort you use when you’re in the shit. What next? A Flight of the Conchords commercial?
Jesus, Westpac is now just as bad as all the rest.
Don’t usuallly take much notice much of ads, but enjoy watching this. Great song too.
This goes up against The Mentalist, Judy Dench voice overs and money is good bad good bad good. I know which one i’d want in my book.
I like it, but…. new world, westpac and AA insurance all have the exact same ad now?
DDB, you have a Steinlager Pure ad that mocks this kind of imagery and nationalism, then you break out that same imagery for your very next ad?
Anyone got a link to the AA ad?
Man walks into a Westpac branch and finaly asked the question we’ve all wanting to ask, “Why the eff do you take my money and then charge me while you use my money to make yourself more money?” And the whole world just stopped… for a couple of seconds.
Inspiring, I love you.
Song clip sounded good, portion on Ad at least. Beats talking down interest rates-this really p’s off prudent savers like myself! Other banks seem intent on giving freebies away like android tablets and stuff the people who keep the banks afloat-the depositors and the consequent lack of payback for tying our money for yrs/mths
Whose voice is the doing the voice over for this ad? It is driving me nuts… I recognise it… but can’t think… help!
Taika what’s with cutting and pasting my comment from another blog?
I like this ad, because I was in it. Legit. I’m that guy before Kate Sheppard yelling at the females walking past. Legit.
