Contact Energy appoints JWT New Zealand as it creative agency following competitive pitch
Contact Energy has appointed JWT New Zealand as its sole creative agency following a competitive pitch process.
JWT will provide all of the company’s creative and strategic counsel across brand and retail.
Contact Energy is one of New Zealand’s largest listed companies providing electricity, natural gas and LPG to roughly 560,000 customers nationwide. Contact holds around 45% of the LPG market.
Simon Lendrum, the Managing Director for JWT says he is delighted to be on board with Contact Energy: “Contact Energy is a big New Zealand brand, and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work alongside the Contact team to enhance and build that brand for the future. At JWT our focus has been on overcoming consumer indifference, and the energy category has certainly suffered from this indifference historically, so we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Contact Energy GM Strategic Comms and Partnerships, Nicholas Robinson says he is also excited about the partnership with JWT and the many benefits this will bring.
“Following a rigorous and lengthy pitch process JWT stood out for us with their critical thinking, outstanding creative and seasoned talent. Coupled with their great planning heritage, JWT will help strengthen Contact Energy’s presence further in the New Zealand market.”
Lendrum adds that Contact Energy joins the ranks of Placemakers, Pharmacybrands, Z Energy and DTR as great New Zealand brands represented by JWT.

I think its worth noting here that JWT is the brand managers husbands agency – Also other agencies were told not to present creative and just to do a creds document.
Lets be honest this was a total inside deal – who goes to JWT for creative, strategy or anything for that matter.
Another great example of a client wasting everyones time
Dear Client’s Wife
I can assure you that the pitch process was fairly run, with all agencies invited to pitch following the same RFP format. No agency was asked to present creative, all agencies were asked to present credentials.
As a matter of factual accuracy, JWT is not Contact’s Brand Manager’s husband.
