The keynote speaker is Marian Salzman, PRWeek’s 2011 PR Professional of the Year, and a 2012 addition to PR News’ Hall of Fame. As the CEO of Havas PR North America, Salzman has been described as many things; Business Insider last year named her one of the 25 Most Powerful People in PR, and she’s been credited with popularising terms like metrosexual and millennial.
But the award-winning blogger, brand marketer, public relations executive and social media innovator is known most prolifically for her trend-spotting. At the upcoming forum, Salzman will address the global move towards real-time creativity.
Says Salzman: “Social media has blown the traditional PR world wide open. We no longer need to rely solely on patiently cultivated relationships with reporters and opinion formers to deliver our carefully crafted messages. Now we have to become masters of real-time newscrafting for our clients, creating compelling news and opportunities without the luxury of advanced planning.”
It goes without saying that creativity has wide ranging business benefits for clients; it’s a fact the advertising industry cottoned on to a long while ago. However, creative ideas don’t necessarily have to come from adland, and increasingly it is the PR arms of integrated agencies, independent PR consultancies or experiential agencies that are generating award-winning creative concepts.
Kat Thomas, managing director of One Green Bean (Sydney), is another world-class international speaker who will feature at the forum. Thomas founded the agency in 2007 to create branded initiatives that get press coverage and spark positive conversations via experiential and ambient brand experiences.
In just five years One Green Bean has received multiple industry awards, most recently gaining the accolade of being the first Australian PR agency to receive a PR Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, for its ‘Search for Australia’s Well Worn Volley’ campaign, a national hunt to find Australia’s favourite Dunlop shoes.
Says Megan Clark, chair of the CAANZ Marcomms Leadership Group: “The aim of the forum is to demonstrate that ideas are the currency of all marketing communications disciplines.
“Good ideas that are well executed help businesses and brands achieve their marketing goals and we’re delighted to have the expertise of Marian and our other internationally acclaimed speakers to demonstrate this to full effect.”
Rounding out the forum lineup is Christine Kalin, SPCA New Zealand CEO and Peter Vegas, DraftFCB senior creative talking about the recent ‘Driving Dogs’ campaign, which has received extensive global media interest.
Kalin heads up New Zealand’s leading animal welfare agency and has spent the last two years building the organisation’s already strong reputation. Vegas is a 22-year veteran of advertising having worked as a creative at Saatchi & Saatchi and M&C Saatchi, as a partner at indie agency, Spawn, as well as setting off to far flung lands to help start an outpost for BBDO in Abu Dhabi.
The pair will give both client and agency perspectives on the creation of SPCA’s latest headline grabbing initiative
