Tony Kaye joins Axis Speaker line-up
CAANZ has announced that awarded director Tony Kaye (left) will be speaking at the Axis Speaker event this Thursday replacing Chris Wall.
Tony Kaye can truly be described as a multi talented individual. He is a six time Grammy nominated music video director and has directed many well-known music videos for artists including Soul Asylum, which won a Grammy Award, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Roger Watersand Johnny Cash. He won a Grammy in 2006 for the famous Johnny Cash video God’s Gonna Cut You Down.
His feature film debut was American History X (1998), a drama about racism starring Edward Norton and Edward Furlong. Norton was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film.
His other films have won the International Critics’ Award and the Revelations Prize at the Deauville Film Festival, the Audience Award and the Grande Prize at the Valenciennes International Festival of Action and Adventure Films along with a long list of other international awards, including the Honorary Maverick Award at the Woodstock Film Festival in 2011.
As a film maker, in 1994 while working on a commercial he made for Nina Ricci perfume he invented the now commonly used technique whereby film speed ramps during a shot. Still Photographs from this commercial were exhibited in The Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris in the late 1990s.
He is also a painter and was involved in the YBA London contemporary Art explosion of the late 1980s. Tony has a book of his artwork called “Epicomedy” being published in the northern Autumn 2013.
Kaye is also a singer songwriter and is working on an album with the legendary Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick.
And finally he has just been inducted into the D&AD hall of fame.
Kaye is an incredible addition to what is already a world-class speaker line-up and he makes the Axis Speaker Event on May 9th even more of a must-see.
