Giselle8com.jpg8com director Toa Fraser’s feature film interpretation of the renowned romantic tragedy, Giselle, will have its world premiere during the opening weekend of the New Zealand International Film Festival.

Filming intensively in New Zealand, Shanghai and New York, Fraser’s interpretation of Giselle is instilled with grit and passion. Striving to deliver the audience a more personal and engaging experience of ballet, Fraser has woven a poetic story around the performance of the ballet, set in the contemporary world of Shanghai and New York. In stark contrast to the thriving cities, two lovers are separated in space and time, alone and grieving for each other.

Says Graeme Mason, New Zealand Film Commission CEO: “The NZFC is delighted this collaboration with the RNZB has resulted in this beautiful and entrancing film with a unique view of a much loved and romantic ballet.  The festival cinema audience are in for a very special treat.”
