This next installment in the New Zealand Health Promotion Agency ‘Ease up’ campaign via DraftFCB Auckland is all about arming people who want to ease up on the drink, with a socially acceptable way to say no thanks.
Say ‘Yeah, Nah’: ‘Yeah’ I want to have a good night tonight, but ‘Nah’ no more beersies for me.

Yea, fuck no.
Holy Homoeroticism, batman. One man staring longingly into the eyes of another while he sings “I will do anything for love”?
It’s a funny ad that’s hard to hate, cause it’s actually working.
Yeeeeaaaah Nah.
totally gay, creepy and rather confusing.
The idea of ‘solving’ binge drinking through advertising is wishful thinking at best. It doesn’t matter what you do, it won’t work. So you might as well just take the money and run, as Y&R have done.
Given that, this ad still sucks of course.
nobody thinks a tvc is going to stop people binge drinking.
it’s going to make people talk about binge drinking, thus putting the problem out there.
and that’s what will go a little way towards stopping binge drinking.
Also it seems to be getting a lot of traction with quite young kids – pre drinking age even – just like ghost chips did. nipping the problem in the bud quite early, whether that’s what’s intended or not – most about to become drinking age boys i know think excessive drinking is, well, the word they use is ‘gay’. But that’s a social problem for another day.
‘…that will go a little way towards stopping binge drinking.’
I think you are being wildly optimistic there Paul. Actually I think you are being wildly optimistic when you say it will make people talk about binge drinking as well.
It’s not about binge drinking though is it?
It’s about making it ok to be out and stop drinking.
I have no idea what is going on in the ad, but it seems to have successfully given people a bit of language to use.
You’re absolutely right Sober. It is telling people they can say ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, nah’ instead of ‘No thanks’.
Well that is well worth spending public money on , isn’t it?
wtf business is it of the nanny state if you drink and don’t drive anyway? If you get drunk, don’t drive, and don’t go out and commit crimes and don’t go home and abuse your family, then that should be your own effing business.
