BNZ launches new ‘The Power of a Dollar’ campaign via Colenso BBDO New Zealand
Last year, BNZ and Colenso BBDO started a conversation with New Zealand by asking ‘Is money good, or is money bad?’ and concluding that it’s neither, it’s what you do with it. It’s time to inspire people again, with the unlimited amount of good that can be done with money, if it’s simply kept moving.
This next chapter in the journey, ‘The Power of a Dollar’ brings the concept of money into sharp focus again. It sets the scene for BNZ to show New Zealanders more ways they can be good with money, so they can do good
things with it.
Says Nick Worthington, creative chairman of Colenso BBDO: “When you spend money, you think it’s gone but it isn’t, it keeps on going. It never loses its power, it just changes hands from one person to the next. The more it moves, the more good it can do.’
Craig Herbison, BNZ’s chief marketing officer, is thrilled with the result.
Says Herbison: “True to our commitment to helping New Zealanders be good with money, The Power of a Dollar provides an inspiring theme for our communications over the coming months.
“This is the result of a great team, great collaboration and really great work.”

Yes, nicely produced, but too long, lost me half way through. And no pay off.

Ok, I rate Colenso up there with the rest of the world, but the idea is EXACTLY the same as the Lord of War intro…
So after this I was all like, “I might watch the Lord of War intro on youtube, maybe it’s just a coinci… THE FIRST SHOT IS THE VERY SAME SHOT.”
Yes, yes, *CLAPpity-CLAP* for shooting a beautiful spot for a bank that used to deal in pigs, and doing something that stands out and blah blah blah… but you’ve copied two things for BNZ now in a row now (AOL UK GOOD INTERNET vs BAD INTERNET).
First Beyonce lip syncs the American national anthem and now this…
Rip-off.
Rip-off. Again.
Tell me about it !
Pretty sure most billion dollar deals are made with money that only exists in theory. I wonder if we’ll get to follow this little dollar all the way from Main St to Wall St? Then we’ll all watch in anticipation for it to trickle down. The power of a dollar. Oh yes.
My fave recent Colenso rip-off

Rip off.
One of my favourite movies.
Bit tough ? Colenso have already stated they were not one of the 58,000,000 views of DWTD
You guys understand what appropriation means right?
It’s not where you take it from, but where you take it to.
This isn’t primary school. This isn’t art class. Nobody is ‘stealing’ anything here.
The debate then focuses on whether or not this particular appropriation has greater merit than its source.
If you’re going to rip-off the creative work, fine. It’s a business, I get it. But what I think really amounts to “theft” is not the blatant rip-off itself, but rather that you haven’t given the client a discount on services. I mean if Honda came up to you and said “design me a new car that will reinvigorate my brand” and you designed the Mini with an extra side mirror, then you’re kind of sh*tting on Honda aren’t you?
While I’m at it, who throws a GOLD COIN into a wishing well? How bad with money do you have to be to throw GOLD COINS away? You’d probably witness some guy fish it out before you even finished wishing.
Are you seriously suggesting that this ripped off ad is better than the intro to Lord of War? Hahahahahahahahahahaha!
The Lord of War was written and directed by a Kiwi who’s sister used to work at Colenso in Wellie, so it’s OK to rip it off. Maybe it was Duster’s idea first.
I don’t care that they blatantly ripped it off.
Even if it was original it is; a) piss boring, and b) so utterly generic it is obvious the bank has nothing worth saying about itself.
Is that dog sculpted from poo?
