20-02-14 DOM POST B3 REBEL SPORT - MCCULLUM 302.jpgFebruary’s Ad of the Month judges were spoilt for choice with a power of great newspaper work on the table. This month’s winner went to Ogilvy for their Rebel Sport ‘302 legend‘ cricket ad.

The judges liked the topical nature of this ad which made it perfectly suited for the newspaper environment   – they commented “fast turnaround, timely response for next day”. They also noted that a full page always stands out (and of course we think so too!). But the winning element for this month’s judges was the fact the ad made the reader work just a little “this is not just for cricket fans, it makes the reader work – but you get a reward for it” and “a couple of seconds lag and you get it!”.

A highly commended award also went to M&C Saatchi for their NZ Fire Service ‘Don’t Drink & Fry’ ad.  The judges’ comments on this ad – “great campaign so perfect for the target market”. One judge (who will remain nameless) ventured “I can imagine myself using that…”

Screen Shot 2014-03-06 at 8.44.41 am.jpgThe judges also noted that both this month’s winning ads were totally designed to work with the medium. This month’s judges were: Dave King, M&C Saatchi; Ben Polkinghorne, Colenso BBDO; and Angus Hennah, Ogilvy & Mather. Judges always abstain from voting for their own work and there was a bit of that this month.

With one month to go the Agency League is hotting up with Ogilvy nudging ahead with two wins!
