Rialto launches two-hour live online auction to celebrate ‘Shopping’ film’s premiere via DDB NZ
To celebrate Rialto’s television premiere of the award-winning movie, Shopping, DDB New Zealand has set up the Shopping Shop. A two-hour LIVE online auction featuring the lead actors where Kiwis will have the chance to ‘score mean as stuff’ including original props from the movie.
Created in conjunction with Shopping film director, Louis Sutherland from The Sweet Shop, the campaign kicks off with a 60″ promo and a 15″ YouTube pre-roll, encouraging Kiwis to pre-register for the LIVE auction on 31st March.
Shopping is a coming-of-age story set in the early 1980s, and follows two young brothers as one gets involved in shoplifting. The ‘Shopping Shop’ auction will sell all sorts of 80s memorabilia inspired by the film including a ‘flash as rim that fell off the car in the movie’. Nothing is stolen – as far as we know.
Kiwis will be able to place bids via text message or Twitter and every item will be sold to the highest bidder with proceeds raised going to Starship Foundation.
Shopping received a Grand Prix award at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival as well seven New Zealand MOA awards in 2013, including best film, best director, best screenplay, best supporting actor and actress, best cinematography and best poster design. It premieres on the 6th of April on SKY’s Rialto Channel.
The two hour LIVE online auction will be held on the 31st of March from 7pm-9pm, but you can pre-register now at Shoppingshop.co.nz.

he would of made it actually funny.
But really nice work DDB.
Awkward and funny at the same time. I like.
Great film, try hard spot
The Director who made the film, which also featured the same talent, shot the ad. What does Taika have to do with anything?
