Special leads the agency pack with 29 Effie finalists, followed by DDB on 19 and TBWA on 17

One of the advertising and marketing industry’s premier award ceremonies is drawing near, as the first and second rounds of judging for the 2023 Aotearoa Effie Awards in association with TVNZ has been completed, and the finalists have been revealed.

This year’s theme for the Effie Awards is “Awarding Ideas That Work,” celebrating the most effective advertising campaigns in Aotearoa over the past year.

Special has 29 finalists over 9 different clients including Kiwibank, Contact Energy, Partners Life, Trademe, Tourism Fiji, Education New Zealand, Tourism New Zealand, Better Packaging Company, Wellington City Mission.

DDB are next with 19 finalists, closely followed by TBWA on 17, Motion Sickness on 11 and Colenso BBDO on 9.

A panel of over 160 industry peers conducted the first round, with an additional 70 completing the second round. The exceptional quality of entries impressed the judges, making the selection of just over 115 finalists across various Effie categories all the more challenging. With one final round of judging to go, this years executive judges are some of Aotearoa’s leading marketers.

This year’s Executive Judges who will lead the final judging rounds are:

• Jodi O’Donnell | TVNZ
• Kelley Toy | Fire & Emergency NZ
• Lauren Cooke | Waka Kotahi NZTA
• Renee Milkop-Kerr | Fonterra
• Sean Wiggans | Turners Auto Retail
• Simon Hofmann | Kiwibank
• Jill Chestnut | Tourism NZ
